Summer Tankardstown Wedding

“Oh my gosh Dasha, the images are amazing! I am sitting with Cian here and we are both so impressed. Thank you again, you were so great on the day and made us feel so comfortable. You have captured those natural moments perfectly which is exactly what we wanted.”

Well, this is the first 2020 wedding I’m sharing on the blog! What a year… Not going to lie, it’s been a stinker. But one thing I want to do is to take my hat off to couples who despite everything managed to get married and celebrate with their closets families and friends. These were not huge weddings, but I think the pandemic definitely highlighted all the emotions a wedding day brings. The few weddings that went ahead this year were filled with so much love and connection, I’m actually feeling emotional just thinking about the moments I got to witness and capture this year, even though there were very few.

For some of you it has been extremely stressful, as for all your suppliers and the whole events and wedding industry. I hope we will come out the other end of it soon and will be able to hug each other tight in the not so distant future :) For now I’m sharing Lucy and Cian’s beautiful Tankardstown House wedding - the very first wedding I photographed in 2020. They had to change their date 3 times and cut the guest list down to just over 40 people, but they both said they still had the most wonderful day. I hope it shows through the photos!

If you are not sure whether or not to go ahead with a smaller wedding, I have a message from Lucy which may help you decide:

Initially, I was never open to considering a smaller wedding but the last few months put everything in perspective and made us realise as long as we were able to get married with our immediate families present, then any additional guests would be a bonus. We were initially due to get married in May'20 with 180 guests, which we postponed to next Feb'21 and then we started to realise that the virus was not going away anytime soon, so there was no guarantee for the wedding to go ahead with the larger numbers by next Feb.

We managed to get a cancellation for the Aug bank holiday weekend in Tankardstown and made a last-minute decision to pull the wedding together in about 3/4 weeks and go ahead with the smaller numbers of 50. I was lucky to have such amazing suppliers (like yourself) which made all the planning and organising a lot easier.

All the guests who we had to "uninvite" were so understanding given the circumstances and in the end, we had such an amazing weekend that all the stress leading up to the wedding was instantly forgotten! It was completely relaxed from start to finish, we were able to get around the room to all the guests effortlessly and have really good conversations with all of our guests. Our family & friends mixed so well due to the smaller number that by the end of the weekend everyone was leaving with new friends, which was lovely for us to see.

We have said we will do a few smaller parties next year for the family/cousins/friends that couldn't make the wedding this year so if anything, we get to keep the celebrations going!”
