Lakeside ceremony in Castle Leslie

It’s always nice to be recommended to engaged couples by their friends, which was the case for Katie and Paul. I photographed one of Katie’s best friend’s wedding a couple of years prior. Katie was one of the bridesmaids, so she had also seen me in action :)

I have one word for Katie and Paul’s wedding - EPIC! Not because it was very grand, but because they really wanted to create a party for their guests and everyone just participated and had an absolute ball :) I will include some of Katie’s words below to describe their day and inspiration behind it:

“We want the day to be really fun - high energy, uplifting - a party atmosphere right from the start, lots of laughing, dancing, great and very elegant and luxurious but not too “formal”. We are adding lots of personal details that we hope will bring the fun eg:

  • great and high energy music throughout (eg gospel choir and getting people to join in on Oh Happy Day, manilla strings going from table to table during dinner, jo petit and the dream band in the evening)

  • sunglasses as wedding favours and asking people to wear them when we do our entrance to “Im too sexy”

  • the prosecco tower and a margarita stand for Katie who loves a “bougie” drink

  • A special vegan sweet table for Paul

  • The table names with QR codes to funny videos

  • An ice cream van

  • Cutting the cake with the sword

We haven’t done many DIY projects but we will have a big board with pictures of us over the years on it kind of telling our “story”

Theme:

Neutral - whites and greens, very “elegant” and “classic”. We have asked the guests to wear “cocktail attire” but the groomsmen are wearing black tie. The bridesmaids are wearing very simple dresses in a kind of champagne colour and the bride’s dress is very clean/simple.

If the weather is nice we will do the ceremony down by the lake which should be really spectacular - with the bride coming down the steps as the “aisle” and the altar being right in front of wooden jetty (with a nice floral arch behind it). EPIC design are doing a lot of design/decor on the pavilion including a ceiling installation, a green hedge behind the stage, floral pelmets, a neon sign with our names on it, white chairs. In terms of inspiration - we drew inspiration for the decor itself largely from Katie’s endless trawling of pinterest and also epic design’s/ castle leslie’s instagram pages, and also our house we live in is all greens and creams and neutrals so this theme feels very “us”.
