Destination Wedding In Palais Liechtenstein, Vienna, Austria
Black tie destination wedding in Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna, Austria.
L and J actually got married in an intimate ceremony in London last year. However, as they both have very international families and friends, they decided to celebrate one more time and organised a bigger wedding for everyone in Vienna, Austria where J is from.
I first met the couple in London when I flew over for their engagement portrait photoshoot. We spent a couple of hours wandering the city in search of blossom in their neighbourhood of Chelsea. I lived in London for 6 years, and it was great to be back in some of my favourite locations! L and J were absolutely fantastic and so easy with each other.
The wedding ceremony and reception both took place in Palais Liechtenstein in the centre of Vienna. It was my first time in Austria and Vienna, and what a great introduction to this beautiful country! I had some time the day before the wedding, which I spent admiring the beautiful architecture. Every building is a masterpiece! I also went to check out the wedding venue and what the light was like at that particlular time of the day for family and couple’s portraits. The Palace is surrounded by a small, but beautiful garden and the light was reflecting from the surrounding buildings, making it very flattering. On the day of the wedding the sun was shining and we even managed to catch the golden hour for photos and video.
Even though it was a black tie official event in a palace, the bride and groom still wanted a cosy gathering of close relatives and friends. The couple wanted to plan a good party, where everyone felt relaxed and could have fun, rather than stressing about the formalities. It was a rare occasion to have so many people who matter in one place, so they went to town! It was a brilliant celebration with laughter, some happy tears in the mix and crazy moves on the dance floor! This destination wedding proved to me once again that regardless of the venue, how grand it is and how formal the dress code, it’s the people who make the wedding and create the atmosphere.
L wore a beautiful champaigne colour wedding dress with a lace top and tulle skirt from Pronovias for the ceremony and dinner. The Bride then changed into a more relaxed dress from Grace Loves Lace for the evening party and dancing. She completed the look with a ‘messy’ bun hair updo, garden style bouquet and sparkly Jimmy Choo shoes. I also loved the bridesmaids’ dresses which were all similar shades of dusty pink, but which the girls chose themselves. It was a great mismatched look. The Groom and groomsmen were rather dashing in black tie - the classic choice for the smart look.
I would definitely love to photograph another destination wedding in Vienna or another venue in a different location in Austria! Huge congratulations again to L and J on such a beautiful day and thank you for bringing me over to Vienna to capture your wedding day for you :) See a few of my favourite images below:
